Why We Should Amplify Black Women In Corporate America

When a Black woman speaks up, don’t tell her she’s aggressive, sassy, loud, or angry while my White pairs are addressed as confident.

It’s been a heavy year thus far, going through the five stages of grief due to racism, covid19 and police brutality in the middle of a pandemic while also having to work through personal things. I’ve noticed my energy and workload decrease due to everything going on around us. The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately killed Black Americans and further undermined our financial stability.  I am happy that we finally addressing these issues that have always been kept under the rug. We have a lot to talk about and fix simultaneously. It has been a traumatizing experience to say the least for my Black Sisters and Brothers.

As a Black women, I’ve had numerous experiences with racism especially in the workplace from microaggression, finding hard to grow in a company and getting opportunities in my field of study. Having a Bachelors and Masters degree haven’t made it easier. I will always be seen a BLACK WOMAN. I have to work harder than my non-black friends to be deemed worthy of some opportunities. I am going to be listing some issues that need to be addressed by Corporate America.

Suit – Zara | Bag – ShopAkira | Heels – Bershka

Here are some Racial Injustice that need attention :

In the Workplace – Many Black women suffer from PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Micro-aggression, demeaning work reports at work due to racial oppression and injustice. Many fear going to work, no one should have feel that way.
•Black women are scrutinized for their natural hair in the workplace
•Black women are significantly underpaid and overworked
•The token black girl needs to be combated with Black women been offered with a variety of opportunities and promotions in the workplace
• We demand corporations to review how Black Women are been treated in the workplace.

  • Affirm publicly that Black Lives Matter
  • Ensure that managers know how to support Black colleagues
  • Provide support specifically to Black employees during times of crisis
  • Foster inclusive spaces for Black employees
  • Implement clear mechanisms for responding to and resolving discrimination against Black workers
  • Conduct an analysis to confirm that you are paying Black employees equally

Health Care – Black Women aren’t always getting the quality of healthcare they deserve, we experience racial injustices and Police Brutality in our homes and workplaces. Changes need to be made instantly.

Brands – Pay Black Creators and stop asking us to work for exposure or products when we use our resources, time, money and energy to create the same content. We shouldn’t have to work twice as hard to be heard, visible and taken care off. We deserve to be treated equally. I shouldn’t have to ask to see people who like me on your Instagram feed, travel campaigns or campaigns in general. We shouldn’t have to ask for this things, it’s the bare minimum. I’m appreciative of the brands who have done this all along. We can create change together.

There is an ERASURE of Justice for Black Women as much as we advocate for men, we must continue demanding justice for BLACK WOMEN.
* Breonna Taylor – killed by police in her bed March 13, 2020
* Sandra Bland – Died in police custody on July 13, 2015 and many others and some have happened last week.
Here’s how to help

Sign the Petitions
•Flood the hashtags #SayHerName
•Support the protesters who are in the streets demanding justice for Taylor by contributing to their bail funds •Vote Please in your respective cities.

Normal is boring, exhausting and over. We need to keep the conversations and the fight going.

With Love Always,

I’ve always been baffled that any person, let alone a company, has anything to say about someone else’s hair..particularly their natural hair. Thank you for teaching us all about these topics that demand change!

While I don’t work in a corporate environment anymore, I have always tried my best to stand up for others in the workplace – no matter my job. It just blows my mind to think of someone being treated differently because of the color of their skin or the style of their hair, or literally anything else. Black lives DO matter, and they’re important and necessary in the working world, as well as everywhere else! I so appreciate this perspective.

It’s sad that you or any black man/woman experience that type of thing at work. I’m really hoping that things will change and they take into account those points you stated.

Such great things to think about. I know many black ladies in my community who are contributing in amazing ways, and I am glad this is all being brought to light. No one should be treated differently b/c of their God-given physical attributes.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It’s so frustrating to think about companies treating their employees differently because of the color of their skin or their hair style. You’re so right that NO ONE should fear going into work.

Side note: you look STUNNING in these photos!

Yes yes yes to all of this!!! We actually had a discussion on race in the workplace where I work and many black women addressed this stereotype that makes it hard for them to feel like they can speak up! All work places should be fostering an environment where all employees but in particular their employees of color can not only speak their minds but also be given opportunities to rise up.
