I have learned over the years though that “nice” is good, but “too nice” is not. I was inspired by Drake’s new single Nice For What?” It got me thinking about alot of things especially my relationships with the different people in my life. I always been a nice person, but as I get older. I am starting to realize being nice won’t get you where you want to be career wise and in relationships (romantic or platonic). It’s good to be kind, but not too nice. “Too nice” is the person who is afraid to set boundaries. “Too nice” is the person who is afraid to say no. “Too nice” is the person who I used to be (and still am, sometimes). I have been told how nice I am my entire life. This is usually a great compliment to me. I love it when people tell me I’m nice, because I am nice. In fact, throughout my life I’ve tried my best to be kind, caring, empathetic and helpful to just about everyone I meet.
When I reflect back on my life and my various relationships with men, with friends, with family, and even with some co-workers, I can now see how being “too nice” was my way of staying safe, of avoiding conflict, and of remaining emotionally intact. I could have gotten opportunities if I had asserted my thoughts effectively instead of keeping them in to be nice. As I grow older, Im learning to be kind and not too nice. To speak up because my opinions and thoughts are needed with all my relationships. I really enjoyed how Drake had inspiring powerful women as cameo’s in his Nice For What Video such as Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Syd, Letitia Wright and so many more. I’m wearing this green cute number from Asos. It is part of the prom collection and paired it a with some gold heels and blue clutch for nice spring contrast.I’ve had people take advantage of my niceness and learned to be more assertive.
